COVID-19 School Safety Plan 2021-2022

January 25, 2020 ~ MQP COVID-19 Updated Information

Dear Families,

The MQP COVID-19 Safety Plan has been reviewed and updated by parish leadership in consultation and collaboration with ISD 728 and the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, to reflect the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) 5 day isolation guidelines provided by the CDC.

The following MQP Updated Guidelines are effective today, 1/25/2022:

  • Staff and students who test positive for COVID-19 will begin a five day isolation period from the onset of symptoms or testing date, whichever occurs first. Day 0 is the first day of symptoms, or if asymptomatic, the day the COVID-19 test was taken.
  • Staff and students can end isolation and return to school on day 6. If the individual continues to have a fever or other symptoms have not improved after 5 days, you should wait to end isolation until fever-free and symptoms show improvement.
  • Staff and students who return on day 6 are required to wear a mask on days 6-10 while on the MQP campus. If a mask cannot be worn properly, the individual must remain in isolation for the entire 10 days. Please consult the school office for a return-to-school date for all positive COVID-19 results.
  • Quarantine will no longer be required due to an exposure to an individual who has tested positive for COVID-19, including a family member. However, it is still a recommendation from MDH. If your child is exposed, please consider testing them 5 days from the date of exposure. Students and staff should stay home if they are ill, or are exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms.
  • MQP will continue to notify families of a positive COVID-19 case in their child’s classroom. If three or more positive cases occur within a 10 day period in a classroom, then additional mitigation measures will be evaluated.
  • MQP is actively tracking all positive COVID-19 cases on campus and will utilize this data to determine if additional mitigation strategies are needed.

Please understand that our staff is working around the clock to remain open for full-time in-person learning. We appreciate your understanding while we do the best that we can to keep our students and staff healthy in the school building. Please don’t hesitate to contact the school office directly with any questions or concerns.

Mrs. Hamill and Parish Leadership

Wednesday, August 25, 2021

Welcome back to school! The building looks absolutely amazing. Teachers and staff have planned an exciting year, classrooms are neatly organized and the new curriculum is ready for your children. We are excited to see you tomorrow evening to welcome your family back for the 2021-2022 school year.

In collaboration with the guidance received from the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis and ISD 728, MQP leadership has established the following protocols for the 2021-2022 school year. It is the number one goal to keep students, teachers and staff safe, while providing students with in-person learning.

We will continue to work closely with the Minnesota Department of Health to monitor case data in and around our community to ensure the safest learning environment for our students. If case numbers are a significant increase, or we are required to follow a new mandate, some portions of this plan may change.

We are beyond happy to share that students will be returning back to the lunchroom, moving throughout the building for specialist classes, and volunteers are welcome back on campus.

As always, please don’t hesitate to contact me directly with questions.

Mrs. Hamill

2021-2022 Learning Model and Mask Policy

  • Preschool-5th grade students will learn in person on campus each day.

  • Masks are recommended but not required. Teachers and staff may choose to wear face coverings from time to time.

  • Masks are required on school buses. This is a federal requirement.

  • Students who have tested positive for COVID-19 are required to isolate and will have the option to learn virtually.

  • Teachers will provide work for students who are in isolation. Please allow 24 hours for teachers to gather student work.

  • In some cases additional distance learning may be provided for students due to individual situations and it is the exception, not the norm. All distance learning requests must be pre approved by Mrs. Hamill.

Attendance Guidelines

Students must stay home if parents or guardians suspect their children have any of the following symptoms:

  • Temperature over 100.4 degrees

  • Excessive coughing

  • Chills

  • Headache

  • Sore throat

  • Severe muscle pain

  • Loss of taste or smell

  • Shortness of breath

Parents must notify MQP if their child:

  • Has flu-like symptoms

  • Has tested positive for COVID-19

  • Is awaiting test results

If someone tests positive for COVID-19, they will be required to leave campus until they have been cleared by their healthcare provider and have satisfied the 10 day isolation requirement depending on the situation based on the Decision Tree from MDH. MQP will notify MDH of each positive diagnosis on our campus.

Daily Cleaning and Sanitation

  • Students will be moving through the building.

  • We will social distance as much as possible, and we will not be following the six foot guideline that was in place last year. The new guideline is 3 feet which is a normal distance at desks and tables in most cases.

  • Every classroom will be disinfected at the end of each school day.

  • Common areas and high touch areas such as light switches, touchless refillable water dispensers, desks, tables, hand railings and door handles will be cleaned daily.

  • Students will be assigned individual cubbies to keep their backpacks and school supplies separate.

  • One-to-one devices will be provided for each student, iPads for K-2 students and Chromebooks for 3rd-5th grade students.

Parent Volunteers and Visitors

  • Volunteers and visitors are welcome and will be allowed on campus per the Virtus E3 and safety policy found in the student/parent handbook.
